Support & Sensory Regulation from Sensory Submarine

Sensory Submarine

Have you come across Sensory Submarine yet? We connected over on Instagram and I am very happy to be partnering with them as a Brand Rep. The one thing my kids need this summer is plenty of sensory supports. Sensory play and learning through play are two of my favourite things and this is exactly what Sensory Submarine is all about.

I was kindly gifted the Mini Fine Motor Kit, a Chew Stixx and Super Chew in exchange for this honest review. I purchased the Colour Liquid Timers and Slime Play Multi Pack at a discount. All words and opinions are my own. Don’t miss the discount code at the end of this post.

Mini Fine Motor Kit

I have been trying to do more fine motor activities with both boys especially my youngest recently so I was really pleased to try out the Mini Fine Motor Kit 3. I know the more we practice fine motor skills the easier things like fiddly buttons on school shirts and writing skills will be.

The kit contains:

  • Cotton reels and thread
  • A threading shape
  • Hungry tennis ball
  • Pom Poms
  • Therapy Putty

I was also gifted a lovely Sensory Submarine branded tote bag which comes with larger kits and is perfect for keeping the kit together. Although I think it may become my new favourite shopping bag!

Hungry Tennis Ball & Pom Poms

I love this activity, the hungry tennis ball is really cute and was the first thing my eldest went for.

The boys really enjoyed feeding the pom poms to the tennis ball and I could see it was tricky for them but both persevered and got lots of practice. They had great fun making sure every pom pom was squashed in then taking them all back out again.

Therapy Putty

The therapy putty is a great sensory aid, my youngest loves to sit squishing it between his fingers. Whilst there are some similarities to playdoh it is more of a rubbery texture so great for squeezing and pulling.

Threading Spools

It has been a long time since we did some spool threading in our house so I was really pleased to see how confidently the boys got on with it. I think they must have been doing it at school! We also used these to make different patterns by ordering the colours.

Threading Shape

The wooden threading shape is a lovely size for little hands and a great way to practice the sequencing of in and out threading.

The items in the kit are perfect activities for our TEACCH bags which I will be doing with the boys in the Summer holidays so will get lots of use.

Chews

Both my boys are chewers and need lots of oral sensory input. Sensory Submarine gifted us a Chew Stixx and a Super Chew. As you can imagine they have been very popular with the boys. I am always wary of chews as my kids are very able at chewing through them, I am pleased to report both chews have so far stood up to significant chewing and look as good as new!

My 5 year old is particularly fond of the Super Chew and is using it daily. It is a really nice design for holding and very easily washed too. It has been lovely seeing him self regulate using it.

Colour Liquid Timer

I have been meaning to get some liquid timers for a while so I was pleased to buy this set of two from Sensory Submarine. I love these to help the boys wind down and relax especially in the evening. They are memorized by the bubbles as it is turned over.

Slime Play Multi Pack

We have reviewed Zimpli Kids Slime before but I didn’t know there was a multi play pack available so added it to my cart when getting the colour timers. Fantastic value for the Slime Play Multi Pack from Sensory Submarine at just £2.50.

The boys love slime especially my youngest who was quickly trying to climb into the tray! I used two of the three packs and added different quantities of water so they were different consistencies. This kept the boys busy for nearly an hour which is fantastic and it’s so calming a must have for those days you just need something to help with sensory regulation. I am saving the other pack for some garden play in the sun.

Love the hungry tennis ball! Iris needs to work on her fine motor skills in preparation for writing so I’ll definitely be taking a look at their Instagram page.

I like this combination of products, it’s more varied than many sensory kits I’ve seen, and I like the way it encourages working on motor skills too! Does it say on the putty and the chewies what they are made of/if they’re non-toxic, maybe FDA approved/food grade or anything like that? Having a boy who will chew on all kinds of non food items, I try to keep exposure to toxins down. Love the slime play, we used some of that in the garden a few days ago 🙂 Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS! x

The chewies were definitely non toxic and FDA approved. Not sure about the putty. The chewies are still going strong despite my son’s efforts to chew through it! It’s a lovely varied kit as you say nice to have that variety.
