Why work with me?
I have two autistic children myself and understand the challenges that we face as parents and carers. I have also been working with a local charity providing parent support groups / online support and 1-1 phone calls. This along with the work on The Autism Page over the past 3 years has taught me a huge amount about supporting young autistic children.
I have a good general knowledge of issues facing autistic children and UK paperwork. I also understand first-hand how overwhelming it can be working out how best to support your child.
Pre-children I worked in information, strategy and research so have a good understanding of the importance of accurate information. Alongside experience in how to research any information I don’t already have.
“Jade is one of those rare parents who comes into the world of autism eyes wide open and fully prepared to learn whatever it takes to help her children. She has a calm, methodical and pragmatic approach that helps not only her own family but many others with autistic children. Jade is a proactive parent and parent supporter – her years of research and writing have given her a very solid foundation from which she provides information in an accessible way. If she doesn’t know the answer, she’ll find it! I’m delighted that Jade will be offering her insights and knowledge to the public, and I would encourage anyone who is struggling to book that initial call to see how she can help.” Kate Laine-Toner, Founding Director, Bristol Autism Support
‘When I contacted Jade, she wasn’t offering anything like I asked for but I was at the end of my tether, not knowing how to be the best mother I could be for my son. We had had some lovely conversations via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, I also found her blog to be a really useful collection of resources.
My son had yet to receive his diagnosis but had been having intense meltdowns daily. That was due in lockdown and after initially doing really well with the change in his structure, my son had begun to self-harm. I wanted to identify the reasons for the meltdowns and be able to engage him in positive experiences at home.
Jade has a way of making you feel like you are doing everything okay. She is knowledgeable without being patronising and understanding without pitying you. It helped that we were in very similar situations, in that she has two boys with a similar age gap. However, Jade has been on this autism journey for a long length of time and therefore, has been through a lot of the experience before me. She was able to support me in creating activities for my son, she was able to help us create timetables, and she was able to instil me with confidence about what I was already doing.
Before meeting via Zoom, Jade sent me an extensive amount of resources based on some questions that she asked me about our living situation and about my sons likes and dislikes. She trained me and understanding the things that she had sent over our call but allowed me to lead with what I felt I needed most support with.
The thing that has stuck with me the most was the simple act of providing us with bedtime routine resources. my son has taken successfully to the visual timetable that Jade provided for bedtime and the use of this has enabled him to acquire new vocabulary.
Jade manages to be both a lovely person and educated enough to leave you feeling both informed and comforted after a consultation call. I would recommend consulting with Jade if you have any concerns about what you are doing in your parenting to support your autistic child. You really won’t regret it ‘ Mel Green, Parent
