The wooden Montessori Busy Board is a really fun tactile toy. Perfect for sensory seekers looking to improve co-ordination and motor skills while having fun. My two boys (9 & 11) and my nieces (10 & 11) all enjoyed playing with it. They all get a lot out of sensory based toys. This one is very good for lots of fiddling/button pushing along with the cause and effect of the lights coming on.
It was nice watching them work out how each switch or button works differently.
Battery operated it was easy to add the batteries in under the ‘power sign’. The key (top right) can be used to switch the whole board on or off which is very useful.
Learning through play – motor skills
When my kids were younger I had all sorts of exercises we were supposed to be doing to keep the boys working on their fine motor skills, some of these were just not fun. My youngest would get really angry at being asked to thread beads onto string. He just didn’t see any point to it. This board is perfect to help work on motor skills and the kids all enjoyed it and want to play with it.
It is also great for practising different movements/pressure with their fingers. It has been particularly useful for my youngest as he is still struggling with keys. I am a huge advocate for learning through play and the Busy Board is an ideal Montessori toy for this. I love the fact that these are practical skills they are able to practice.
The range of types of switch, including the plug at the bottom right is really good and the fact that the lights we also all a bit different including different colours and some flashing ones.
